 Job description

The Manager - Patient Education in OB/ Women’s services is a key member of the educational and pediatric leadership team. As a key member, the manager ensures that patient educational initiatives and teaching are consistent, evidence based where evidence exists and tailored to meet the individual needs of each patient and family. The incumbent works collaboratively with respective managers of pediatric, women’s and allied health education and respective unit staff to ensure each patient and family is afforded timely and relevant opportunities to embrace educational resources and teaching.  They are expected to work in a clinical setting to support patient education one day a week to maintain personal competence. They provide the templates and assessment tools for assessing patient/family learning. They are responsible for liaising with leadership in Quality and Risk and communication to identify risks and synthesize results from patient/family satisfaction surveys to modify educational processes, informing leadership and actively participating in managing timely solutions. He/ She is expected to manage patient educational resources, and evaluate current educational initiatives for effective learning.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree/ Primary Degree in Nursing/Allied Health Plus Master’s Degree in Education or related Health Professional Program
  • 7+ years of progressive management experience in Pediatrics in an acute hospital setting in a North American Academic Institution, or equivalent in UK, Republic of Ireland, EU States, South Africa, Australia or New Zealand including 5+ years’ experience in a pediatric acute care setting and 2+ year’s recent experience in an educator role in a hospital setting
  • Current Nursing license from country of origin
  • Demonstrated high level people and resource management skills
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of learning theory and curriculum design
  • Ability to design curricula templates and evaluation tools
  • Excellent conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
